A little more about me

Outside work.

Music has been part of my life for a long time. I’m also happiest around aircraft, boats or anything that gets me out on the water. These are a few of the things I enjoy when I’m away from work.

Making music

I play guitar, bass and keyboards, and enjoy music production. I owned a studio in the early 1990s and grew up around Bristol’s music scene. For a while, Wednesday evenings meant five-a-side football against members of Massive Attack.

Formula 1

I’ve followed Formula 1 for years. Then Drive to Survive arrived and the whole family became obsessed.

Flying

I’ve flown fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters and gliders, and spent hundreds of hours in home-built flight simulators over the last 25 years. Helicopters are my favourite. I’d love to get a pilot’s licence one day.

On the water

I enjoy being around boats and spending time on the water. I scuba dive when it’s warm enough, and help support my children’s rowing. Surfing remains a work in progress.

A few less expected facts

My first computer was a ZX81. I wrote my first commercial software programme at 14, on a BBC Model B.

I’ve flown on Concorde.

A cousin of mine plays drums with Pulp, and I’ve met three Irish Presidents.
