Experience
What I bring to the work.
I learned my craft in enterprise infrastructure and telecoms operations, working in environments where service quality mattered and the consequences of failure were real. Since then, I have built and led operations teams and worked hands-on with the technical and human sides of complex problems. That background shapes the questions I ask today: what needs to work, who relies on it, and what will help people make it work well?
At Cloudera, my work spans enterprise operations and architecture, FinOps, AI platforms and platform engineering. I work with technical teams, security, finance and leadership on the business decisions behind those services, including investment, risk, ownership and long-term direction.
Helping people grow and teams take ownership
Leadership is the part of my work I love most, and it is central to how I deliver results. Someone else recognised leadership potential in me before I saw it myself. That experience stays with me: I look for potential in others and help them develop it.
I build trust, explain why the work matters and give people real ownership, with the support to succeed. I want them to challenge ideas, share what they know and learn from mistakes. Seeing a team grow confident enough to operate without depending on me makes me proud.
Infrastructure and support that help the business work
I help provide the enterprise infrastructure that the business depends on to run smoothly. Alongside the platforms and services, I bring architectural knowledge, practical support and the ability to look at how a particular need fits into the bigger picture.
An initial request is the start of the conversation. I want to understand what someone is trying to achieve, think through the wider implications and help find a workable route, balancing business needs with security, cost and ongoing support. If I can't help directly, I'll find someone who can.
For example, a request for an AI model can open a wider discussion about the service someone is building, how it fits with existing systems and who will support it. Access is one part of helping them get something useful working.

FinOps is a substantial part of my work and an area where I bring deep practical knowledge. It spans cost allocation, commercial commitments, rate optimisation, waste reduction and the working practices that help engineering and finance make decisions together.
I connect the technical detail with the business purpose of the spend. Where should we invest? What can we stop or improve? How much should we commit to, and what flexibility do we need to retain? Tools such as CloudZero support that work; interpreting the information and helping people act on it are central to my contribution.

My AI work brings together platform delivery, governance and the decisions an organisation needs to make to use AI well. Alongside operating an LLM gateway and model services, I help connect technical capabilities with business needs, support arrangements, cost and risk.
A new AI capability needs a place in the wider organisation: a useful purpose, clear ownership and a practical way for people to adopt it. I work across those questions, from the architecture and operation of the service to the choices facing leadership.

I also work on European cloud sovereignty and the EU AI Act, considering their implications for infrastructure, AI services and business decisions. This connects with the same practical questions: where services and data sit, who has control, how suppliers are assessed and what an organisation needs to operate responsibly.
I bring that perspective into architectural and planning discussions so that governance requirements can inform the choices people make and the services they build.

Some problems only become clear when people from different parts of the organisation talk together. I bring those groups into the same discussion and help turn their observations into shared priorities.
At an IT Infrastructure gathering in October 2025, I used a retrospective to bring normally separate teams and engineering colleagues together. People recognised concerns they had in common, and leadership gained a clearer view of where action would help. Creating a safe space for quieter voices was central to that discussion.

How I got here
Cloudera · Senior Public Cloud Operations Manager · 2023 to present
My current role brings together enterprise cloud operations and architecture, FinOps, AI platforms and governance. I combine technical and commercial judgement with team leadership, practical service delivery and work on the organisation's wider technology direction.
LeasePlan · Cloud Operations Team Lead · 2021 to 2022
I led cloud engineers supporting applications and teams in a global AWS environment. The work brought together operations, security, cost control and automation, including moving manual infrastructure tasks into repeatable, reviewable workflows.
CBND Limited · Founder and Principal Technology Advisor · 2004 to 2020
Running my own technology business meant being responsible for both the technical work and the business behind it. I worked with clients on infrastructure, disaster recovery and business continuity, alongside supplier decisions and the commercial responsibilities of running the company.
Earlier career · Enterprise infrastructure and telecoms operations
My career started in enterprise infrastructure support, then moved into telecoms and network operations. I worked with live services where availability, clear communication and careful incident response mattered every day. Later, in mobile network operations, I helped build operations functions and the practical ways of working that keep services running as organisations grow.
Those years were where I built my craft: understanding complex systems, finding practical ways forward and helping people work across boundaries. Being part of businesses as they were getting established shaped how I think and work, and remains an important part of the experience I bring today.
